Our Goal:
Back on Track is an aftercare program designed to support families and their teens in transitioning from residential therapeutic and wilderness programs to living back at home and reintegrating into their communities. The program is not meant to replace individual or family therapy.
For the Teen:
Back on Track is designed to work as an adjunct to individual and family therapy. The group milieu is familiar to teens returning from therapeutic wilderness and residential treatment programs. Teens return from these programs with strong resolve to maintain and continue the positive changes they have made. Despite this, re-entry often comes with challenges they may not have anticipated. In addition, once back in their community, there is a strong risk of returning to former behaviors. Back on Track connects teens with peers who are experiencing similar challenges and who can support or confront, as needed, within the safe context of a professionally guided group.
For the Parent:
Parents also benefit from contact with other group members in parent support and multi-family support groups who are also adjusting to their returning teen. The difficult memories of the pre-treatment family relationships may linger. Parents often struggle to reestablish trust with their teen while establishing appropriate boundaries and limits. They want to recognize and support the growth and maturity in their teen, but parents often experience frustration and fear, which may result in falling back into pre-treatment behaviors. Back on Track provides parents with skilled guidance and a support network of other parents from the community who are undergoing the same adaptive process.
Honoring Different Therapeutic Paradigms
Our clients come from different programs and schools, with different therapeutic frameworks. We respect and honor these therapeutic orientations and communicate with these programs and other professionals in order not to undermine previous (as well as current) work being done in these settings.
Benefits to the Professional
Therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists benefit from their clients’ participating in the Back on Track aftercare program because it allows them to exclusively focus on important psychological issues and achieving therapeutic goals. By partnering with Back on Track, they are adding a powerful, ongoing, support structure to their therapeutic success strategies and increasing the likelihood of lasting change for their patients.
We help your patients sustain their therapeutic successes.
